By Faith!
We endured the Middle Passage — pressed in the belly of ships bound for misery.
By Faith… We endured the long… hot…endless days on the plantation.
By Faith… We felt the sting of the overseer’s whip — and still… We lived.
By Faith… We endured the violation of our bodies and the auctioning of our souls.
By Faith… We stood in the shadow of Dred Scott, when the law of the land said we were less than human… but, Heaven said otherwise.
By Faith… We walked through the lie called “separate… but equal.”
By Faith… We endured the terror by night — by those who were teachers by day… preachers by day… officers by day…but hooded demons by night.
By Faith… We worked more and paid less.
By faith… We endured neighborhoods called ghettos — drug-infested, poverty-stricken, over-policed, and underfunded.
By Faith…We will endure the voices that whisper…history is just chalk on a blackboard that can be erased.
No…
We have come this far — not by might.
We have come this far — not by strength.
We have come this far… by faith. Leaning… on the Lord. Trusting… in His holy Word.
And through every storm… every chain… every night season… He… has never failed us yet.
