Luke 11:1
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."
Do you have a certain place? We all need a certain place. Do you have a certain place to pray? Maybe it is at the foot of your bed when you wake up in the morning. Maybe that certain place is at your kitchen table, late at night with a cup of tea? Some people may have a closet, that they can go to an kneel down and pray. For some of us, it may be in your car, when you are driving along. You talk to the Lord about a challenge you are going through and the tears just flow down you cheeks.
Sometimes my certain place is when I am taking a walk, or during a jog on a trail. Or a long bike ride on a quiet Sunday morning. We all need a certain place to pray!
The Word of God says, in Luke 11:1, Jesus went to a certain place to pray. Luke does not say where that certain place was, but when we look over in Matthew, the Word says;
"Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." Matthew 26:36 NIV
We don't know if this place was that certain place, but we know that Jesus went to a certain place to pray. A certain place is a special place. A certain place is a personal place. A certain is a one-on-one place.
"Sit here a while I go and commune with my Father. Stay here while I check in with My God." Sometimes we need to say to somebody. It might be a friend. It might even be a relative. It might be a son, or a daughter. It might even be a wife or a husband. Sometimes you have to say, "stay here a while, while I go talk with my Father."
In a busy, bustling, dirty, sin-sick world, we all need to spend time with God. Purposeful time. Not in-between time, but on-purpose time. Jesus set the example of prayer before His disciples. Not just how to repeat the Lord's prayer, Jesus set an example of how to spend time in prayer with God, in a special place, at a special time, on a consistent basis.
Three things will happen when you spend time with your God. First, you will develop that special place and time that is just between you God. Second, you will learn how to pray. As Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, the Holy Spirt will inspire you with words and the desires of your heart. "Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." Romans 8:26 NKJV. Finally, when you pray, you will inspire those around you, whether at work, or in school, or at home, with the desire to learn how to pray.
In times like these, we all need a special time, and a special place to pray. So find that certain place, that quiet place, and commune with your God.
